3 Reasons You Need to Set Up Google Analytics
What if I shared with you that one of the best ways to learn about your small business customers and their online behavior takes minutes to set up and is free? Would you still skip it?
I recently sat down with my friend for coffee, Krystine Monnett, owner of Holistic Marketing LLC. Krystine shared that there was a common theme that was happening with some of her recent digital marketing clients. She explained that many business owners did not have a Google Analytics account set up for their website prior to working with her! I was surprised this was the case, as I knew the tremendous value data from Google Analytics could provide from the clients I’ve worked with.
Don’t make the same mistake. Here are three benefits you’ll see once you set up Google Analytics for your business:
Collect valuable interaction data to support your site setup or design.
The Google Analytics tool is really powerful and can assist you or your web design provider in designing a better site. Understanding what your visitors click on, search for, or what pages they spend the most time on is all information that you’ll need to make your website better over time. You’ll also gain insights such as volume of desktop vs. mobile traffic, customer drop-off in the shopping cart process, and what other websites your visitors are coming from.Monitor the success or failures of your marketing efforts.
Google Analytics allows you to see a comprehensive picture about your users and what content they are responding to– especially when your GA account is linked to an AdWords account. You will be able to see how many impressions you served, how many people clicked, and hopefully how many people you converted to a sale or some other call-to-action.Identify and resolve issues.
Are site visitors experiencing page errors? Is your traffic dropping off significantly? If you are not using Google Analytics it is almost impossible to know details like this that could negatively impact your online business. You can set up custom alerts to help you understand when certain events are taking place. Here are some additional tips from Krystine:
• Never let someone outside of your company 'own' the Google Analytics account. That is your precious data and it should remain your asset.• If you want more web traffic (and, who doesn't?) then spend the extra time setting up Google Search Console. At a minimum submit your sitemap to assist Google's ability to crawl and index your site and better understand when your site should be returned in a relevant search. Your Google Search Console account can also be linked to your Google Analytics account to provide even deeper insight into the traffic coming to your site.
Not sure you're ready to tackle these items or unsure how your business's goals can be boosted through a solid digital marketing plan? Contact Krystine for a consultation.
