Opportunity
When individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities face under-reported health and safety issues, the consequences include preventable hospitalizations and diminished quality of life. These challenges are compounded by fragmented and inaccessible medical data, leaving caregivers and stakeholders without actionable insights. The Right Care Now Project recognized the need for this segment of the population to have better overall healthcare and improve communication and information to those involved in their circle of care.
The vision was to create a monitoring tool for people with intellectual disabilities that detects and tracks generally ignored health and safety issues, and which provides notification and management guidance for each problem. Thus the LucIDD platform was created, and seeks to address this gap by consolidating medical data into a unified system that enhances inclusion and safety.
STRATEGY
VectorOne employed a comprehensive strategy to develop the LucIDD platform, focusing on innovation, usability, and accessibility:
1. Platform Foundation: The foundational elements were designed to ensure reliability and scalability. This included secure authentication, HIPAA compliance, and responsive design. These features collectively create an inclusive platform accessible across
devices and compliant with healthcare regulations.
2. Risk Engine: At the core of LucIDD lies a sophisticated risk engine that leverages clinician-designed algorithms to identify potential health risks. With over 500 risk detection algorithms, the engine provides precise and actionable insights. A robust testing framework ensures high accuracy and reliability.
3. User Tools: Intuitive tools were developed for various stakeholders, such as caregivers, healthcare providers, and administrators. These include dashboards, caregiver-specific tools, encounter forms, enrollee management, and super admin functionalities. Customization ensures that tools cater to the unique needs of each user group.
4. Reports: To enhance decision-making, LucIDD offers downloadable and printable reports, including Health Risk Reports for caregivers & other advocates, Health Summary Reports for healthcare professionals , and Population Data Analysis for administrators, insurers, and policy makers. These reports are instrumental in providing stakeholders with clear, actionable insights derived from the platform’s data analysis.
The application was built on a robust and fully managed AWS architecture, leveraging the power and scalability of Amazon Web Services. VectorOne utilized AWS Cognito for secure and seamless user authentication and a streamlined user experience. Document storage needs were met with Amazon S3, providing durable and highly available document storage, while AWS SES enabled efficient email communication and tied into Cognito for adding a more personal touch to auth communications as well as any system emails that needed to be sent to users. AWS SQS ensured reliable and scalable message queuing for as many emails as the customer needed. Together, these services formed a resilient and highly scalable cloud stack and a quick deployment process that supported VectorOne's dynamic and growing application.
VectorOne employed the latest technologies, including the Serverless Framework and Node.js in the application back end, to deliver a performant, scalable, and maintainable codebase. By embracing a serverless architecture, VectorOne achieved cost efficiency and scalability while focusing on innovation and fully utilizing all tools at its disposal. MongoDB served as the database of choice, providing a flexible and high-performance solution for managing data. This modern backend stack ensured that the application was not only efficient but also ready to adapt to evolving business needs.
The front end was designed with a focus on responsiveness and usability, using Bootstrap for sleek, mobile-first designs and Angular to build dynamic and interactive user interfaces. This combination of tools allowed VectorOne to deliver a polished and engaging user experience across devices. Together, the tech stack embodied the latest advancements in cloud computing and web development, ensuring that the website was secure, scalable, and user-friendly.
